BOOYAH from Texas!
« on: December 20, 2011, 04:07:08 pm »
Howdy!

I've been reviewing this board for a few weeks now in an effort to learn as much as I can about primitive archery and this board has not disappointed! I'm amazed at the variety and volume of information available as well as the number of people who keep up with traditions.

I, unlike many here, do not have any history in archery whatsoever. I'm 43 and started in October of this year when a friend asked me to help teach archery at a scouting event / mountain man rendezvous.

I bought a cheap bow off of Ebay and the rest, for me at least, is history... I am LOVING this! I blew up my first attempt at tillering a bow (a warbow... a bit steep on the learning curve there) and am looking forward to my next attempt at something more manageable.

Thanks to all of you for sharing your wealth of knowledge!
Sure I can pull that bow, can you?

Welcome to PA!!!  Always love to see another Texan on here.  If you're anywhere near Dallas, come over to my shop and make some shavings...

Whatever you do, Ironmonger, avoid  gstoneberg like the plague.  He will pull some dirty trick or "gift" you with some of that nasty osage bow wood.  He is a bow making addict and wants to make addicts of everyone else!  Run while yo uhave a chance!!!   >:D

He didn't change... handle is mine! I live up in the Saginaw area. I have to say, I've been "addicted" to projects and hobbies in my life but THIS one takes the cake... just made my first set of arrows and took on horn reinforced nocks... THAT was fun! I'm loving shooting them... kinda cool to be using your own tools!

I don't claim perfection but, for first try, I'm good with it!

Nice, what kind of wood is that, cedar?  When we get together you should bring one (or more) of those with.  I'd like to see them up close.
