Looking good folks! Some sweet bows being turned out for sure. Still gonna be a bit before I get a chance to work on mine. May take it to the classic and see about getting it finished up if I can keep from gabbing the whole time I'm there.

Some very nice craftsmanship displayed in this year's PA Bow Trade. 

Got *******'s almost complete.  Letting sinew dry a bit more then a set skins and dolling up a bit.  This is all too exciting!

I've been working on *****'s bow for a bit and here are some photos:



I spent some more time on it tonight but didn't have my camera with me. It's pretty much all shaped at this point and I'm going to check its MC tomorrow. I want it to dry a bit more before I start tillering.

It's complicated with the irregular back, but I think it looks cool as hell. I still have a wee bit more bark to remove.

Ah American hornbeam......I have a stave of that I cut last year in April.  I need to make a bow out of it sometime......planning to try and cut some more of it this year.....if I find a fairly straight tree.

like beetle said lee...its american hornbeam....aka musclewood, blue beech,and also called ironwood...ive made one bow from it....foot your making my wrists hurt seeing how your scraping off that bark with all those hills n valleys....been there done that. they sure do look cool when done tho...i got a few more trees marked to cut this spring

Yep and cut them after leaves bud out so you can peel that bark off easy.  It is a bear to get off otherwise.

footfootfoot that is going to make a wild looking bow...  I have to ask...  are you going to be able to keep all those undulations from under the bark in the bow? I've seen natural backs before but nothing like that!!! That stuff is crazy!!!

good on ya scraping that bark Foot, last time I made a hornbeam bow I decrowned it to skip that part. Coming along pretty nice too!

When did you cut this stave? With the cambium being that green I'd say you have a long time before it is ready tio tiller.  ???
