Looking for a straight stave!

Hello everyone,

I need a straight stave that is at least 52" long. I am open to any of the following woods as long as it is straight.

Open to hickory, Osage, hard maple, HHB, or mullberry as long as then wood is nice and straight.

Also would be open to a hard maple or hickory boards of at least the same length that has grain suitable for an unbacked selfbow.

I have tons of stuff I can trade so shoot me a pm if you have anything along these lines. Thanks.

Im assuming HHB is a type of hornbeam?

Unfortunately no I was hoping it meant hackberry some how.  ::)

i do, I dont know how seasoned it is exactly the bark is on it I know it was cut in the summer and its well over 50" as far as it being straight, I think it may be bent I'll have to look quick but i do think it is in good shape. Im new so please bear with me lol.

No problem, I am looking for a nice seasoned stave at the moment so, your may not work, but as far as wood types go, I'll add hackberry to my list, if anyone else has any.

So heres some pictures of the stave if you or anyone else is interested. Theres is one knot that goes completely through the stave. Length is 65" and sealed at both ends.

The ends are totally sealed, I could cut them if you want to show the rings? I assume that is what your looking for.  ::)

Thats alright fox. It just doesnt look like any hackberry ive seen and i wanted to see the end grain.

Whats it look like to you? I was informed it was certainly Hackberry and I cut it myself in the summer after he said he wanted it down. I myself dont have the knowledge to say otherwise. What do you think it is?

The bark doesnt look like any hackberry Ive seen up here. Ive never seen mossy bark. Its always smooth silver under bark with pronounced slightly darker warts.  But hey, Im just guessing at pictures! Im sure your on the right track.

Let me know if you still need a straight stave, i have some highly prized, very straight Ironwood staves that i prefer not to trade but will if the trade is right :)

Hey Stalkingfox, that may not be hackberry, but it don't look like firewood either!  Build something outa it!  I think there is a killer bow hiding in that piece of wood.
