What Did You Do Today?

PaulN/KS:
My wife uses a jelly strainer that's a lot like yours Eric. We had a good crop of the wild plums here and she canned some jam from them. Unfortunately, there are some bubbles in the jam so will need to use it quicker.
She found a recipe for a plum jam barbecue sauce so that might take care of the "problem"..?

Eric Krewson:
Those strainers sell for around $35 on eBay, I saw one at a flea market the other day for $15, the same guy had about 6 or 7 of the strainers without the stand and pestle but without the other two parts the strainer is useless.

I have a friend that had the strainer and the stand but had lost the pestle over time. I have a little hobby lathe, I used my pestle for a reference and made her a new one out of a piece of wild plum firewood that I cut up on my bandsaw.

PaulN/KS:
Nice looking bit of wood turning there Eric.  :OK That wild plum wood is pretty.

36 total, Poblano and Aneheim peppers, first roasted on the grill then peeled and de-seeded and now in the freezer.
Also 39 Jalapenos, slow smoked over apple wood and now in the dehydrator.
Our house smells like smoked peppers.  :D

Eric Krewson:
It is time to gather pokeberry medicine for the coming year. I have been doing off and on tests with them to test their anti-inflammatory properties, they appear to have a subtle effect in reducing the pain of arthritis. I am 77 and have lived a rough and tumble life for which I am paying dearly for such carelessness now with joint pain.

I have broken my back 3 times doing careless things, I also have a fake hip, sitting on a hard chair makes me really uncomfortable in an hour or so. When I am taking poke berries I can sit on the same chair for hours, no pain.

A close friend turned me on to them, he is a 72-year-old work-a-holic farmer who has been using them for years.

The berries are not poisonous but the seeds inside are, our bodies can't digest the seeds so I swallow the berries whole and the seeds pass on undigested.

Of course I don't suggest anyone should take these, no telling how they will react with the medications you are taking on a maintenance level. I don't take anything but Tamsulosin to help me take a whiz.

On my last physical I asked my long time Dr what he thought about taking them, he said they worked great and he had no problems with them.

Today I am putting up a stock of berries that I collected from poke bushes alongside my exercise hiking trail. I freeze the berries on the stem then clip them off into a freezer bag with a pair of small scissors. I keep the berries in the freezer for future consumption. I take three a day, there are a lot of different suggestions online on how many to consume.

Pappy:
Never heard of that Eric, I like you have been road hard and put up wet as they say, :) might check that out, lots of them around here.  :) I have used them as die and when we were kid use to paint of faces with them, Momma and grand momma loved that.  ::) :) :)
