Did a little knappin today.
« on: October 15, 2007, 10:44:53 pm »
Got rained out at work, thought I'd spend some quality time out in the shop. Never had made an Agee, this one turned out pretty nice - only about an inch shorter than I'd hoped, it's Pederanales flint. The corner notched one is some rock I picked up at the Brazos river - local to my home. The last one is another lame attempt at fluting a clovis - it's also Pederanales.

They look nice to me cowboy. Shouldn't you be hunting though?

Thanks guys!
Eddie: ya know now that ya bring it up - that's an interesting point. My book tells me that the Agee's were being made in the Woodland period and that their about 700 -1200 years old - that's not old for stone points. Sounds possible that the later primitive's would have been resharpening some really old stuff they found - why else the big bat wing barbs? hmm?.....
Hey Jamie, wish you were close enough to drive over in your pickup with a shovel ;D.
Ya caught me DanaM  :D, I shoulda been huntin instead - that front was comin through, temp dropped some, and it was a slow drizzle - perfect for sneaking around.

Those are COOOL  :o   I'm going to try my hand at that some day.

Has anyone else noticed that your life's "To Do" list has gone from stuff like "see the pyramids" to "make a self bow, knapp an point and kill a deer for food" type items?  Mine has.

Keep yourself dry Cowboy.  I saw TX getting dumped on again.  OK set a "wettest" record this year as well.  Too bad we can share with the South East.

So far, I haven't found any Osage or knappable rock over here.  Embrace the suck

Nice points Paul. The clovis looks good to me. The sudden stop at the end of the flute is so that there will be a clean transition between the shaft and point and as a stop to keep the shaft from traveling forward on the point! ;)  Yea, yea. That's the ticket! ;D   Pat

Paul,When I see points like that I always look at the bases, and look for a similier style point with the same base. You can find some nice drills here and when you look at them you can tell they are resharpened Marions or Newnans or even Thononasassa's.they very seldom had a reason to rework the base.

Hey Pat, your back. Where've ya been? huntin? how'd ya do? hehe.
That's what I'm now thinkin too Eddie, if ya made some kind of dove tail point then worked the tip top half down - you'd have an Agee.
