Good finish

Hey, I just got my first bow to shoot!  Very excited.   The first 4 broke.  This one is a board bow (red oak backed with hickory). Can anyone suggest a good finish to put on it?  Thanks guys!

my personal favorite is beeswax mixed with a little bit of pine pitch. its almost completely waterproof, isnt a sticky mess, can't spill, and is completely natural :)

Good job gettin a shooter. Pretty good feeling! I think most guys use tru oil. I use whatever I can get my hands on first.

Another recommendation for Tru-oil.  It is easy to apply, and you can finish it glossy or satin.  It is also very easy to repair.

It really is nice to get a shooter.  :)

Tru Oil fer me as well...
Just be sure to mind your ambient temperature when applying it.
I have found that it doesn't like Cold temps...

I've been using Tru-Oil for many years and will continue for many more.  ;)  Tru-Oil has a deep, very shiny finish. If you want to remove the shine for hunting, a quick spray of satin poly will do the trick and last for years.

Hard to beat Tru-Oil because it looks nice and is very easy to fix. For a while I was finishing bows with an epoxy finish. That stuff is very tough and extremely waterproof. But then guys would bring back my bows to  fix dings and scratches and I'd have to strip the whole finish off to make it look right. What a pain! With Tru-Oil I can just refinish the problem spot and it will look as good as new.

Another recent tru-oil convert here.
Gunsmiths are a good place to find tru-oil if your stuck. No more cleaning brushed and tins just apply with your finger and very easy to repair.

Tru oil on most of mine. Easy to apply/tough and easy to repair Like Gordon said

I currently use Tung Oil, but I'm almost out right now. I like the finish it puts on, but I am gonna try out something new once I use the rest of it up. I think Probably either polyurethane or tru-oil. Just about any finish product will do fine, its just a matter of preference, and the only way to develop a preference is to try a few and see what you like.
