Those are some amazing growth rings Slimbob! I recon you'll have 2 and a half in the whole bow once you're finished! I think I also see another bow in that belly split.  Come up with two ideas and send them both!  :laugh:

Thanks Greg.  The pressures on!  Really, it's all good.  I love makin' bows.  Of course Ryoon will get all the credit if I send the piggy back, and I'm a cheap no bow bow makin sob if I don't.  So, 2 bows it is if I can get a belly Split!

Previously I was always limited in terms of bow wood and would work on the single stave I had from start to finish. Now after a few trades from the trade board along with the PA Christmas trade, I have a decent amount of wood to work with and have a bunch (compared to what I'm used to) of bows roughed out and ready to tiller out. I'm going to have to do a little more digging on my guy to find what would be his style. Here is a sneak peak at what I have going on.

From L to R:
Osage w/ two hole through one limb
Osage w/ a little bit of snake
Black Locust from the Christmas trade
Osage 2 pc take-down molle style
ERC west coast style (planning on small recurves and sinew for the back)
RM Juniper (planning on sinew backing)
Osage bendy handle w/ flipped tips




There are a lot of "firsts" (first BL, ERC, Juniper, hole in a limb, 2pc, molle style, paddle style) in that list for me, so I suppose I'll try my best on them all and send off the best one that fits my guy's style/specs.

You got some nice stuff in the works Duck, they all are looking real good. Any one of those look like they'd be a special bow to receive. 8)

I haven't figured out just what to make yet. I have seen a lot of good looking bows. I'm hoping to get some shop time Sunday.

ionicmuffin, I honestly considered it but, while I do think a poplar bow would be great, I wanted to make something my recipient could shoot without fear so I decided to go with my white gold (hickory).

Hope my recipient is expecting a screamer!  >:D

I checked my wood supplie today for some BL.  It seems I've given all the "good" staves away.  I started working down to a ring on one of them.  It has some knot issues.  I don't think I want to tacke a knotty stave for my first black locust bow.  I'll check out the other one tomorrow.  It appears pretty clean, but has a propeller twist.

How easy is BL to heat correct?
