I went a walk today, and i found a nice oak tree, I cut it, and chopped into 6' lengths walked it home.
I noticed something that is very new to me. Oak have a lighter sapwood. I thought it was all the same colour. Is this a different oak?
I think this is black oak, and i dont know what I usually had before maybe white?

Is this normal? Or do i have some super cool new bow wood hahaha

I don't know if that is sapwood.  I think it's just not heartwood, which is darker, more reddish, normally.

It may be Black Oak.
As far as I know all of the Oaks in the "Red Oak" family have a darker reddish colored heartwood.

would anyone know if there is a drastic difference in the proformance of the sap/heart wood

I've used red and white oak and sapwood or heartwood doesn't matter. No need to chase a heartwood ring. Jawge
