Serving string SUBSTITUTE
« on: July 06, 2013, 09:24:40 pm »
I'm new here and I just made my first bow.

Is there something I can use in place of contemporary serving string that I could find in a store other than an online archery retailer?

(My local archery/sports shops don't carry string making material.  But I do live close to an AC Moore, Michael's and a JoAnn Fabric.  Home Depot & Lowes are even closer.)

The string serving is only to protect the string in areas of heavy use like where the arrow goes on the string. Any covering will work, some better than others. You could use dental floss, artificial sinew or upholstery thread. It could double or tripple the diameter of the string so don't make it too thick.
