City Locust Bow
« on: August 10, 2013, 07:49:08 pm »
The wood for this bow was saved from the tree trimmers at my work.  I asked the man if he would be willing to save me any of the long and strait branches.  He said "what for"?  When I told him "for bows" he gave me a funny look and replied "sure what ever".  I got a lot of wood that day ranging from 1" to 3" diameter branches.  Back then I did not know that you could remove the bark, then put a sealer to prevent checking.  I took one of the limbs bark off and spit it out.  It checked horribly.  So I just left the rest on.  It was a pain to remove later after the wood was good and dry, but i got it off and was happy with the results.  Any way the bow is 52" long and about 1" at the widest.  It pulls ~33# @ 22".  It started with 3" of reflex or more and holds about 1 3/4".  The snake was one big bull snake (love those).  I made this bow for my wife who love bow and archery but has never been much of a shooter until this bow.  She has put about 500 arrows thew it.  Her confidence as a shooter has risen 10 fold.  now we get to shoot almost every night.  Any critiques welcome as always
  Thanks Matt

Nothing to critique here, man I love that bow. Very neat finish work, clean and graceful lines, skins contrast beautifully with the wood and braced and drawn pics look great. I think you gotta put that one in for bom. Real nice locust bow!
I ain't broke but I'm badly bent.

You are totally right lost arrow.  The wife and I put our six month old son down for bed, take the monitor  out and spend an hour together.  Can't beat it with a stick >:D pun intended

Matt, you did a fantastic job on that one. You did yourself proud and your wife got a beautiful bow.
I found many years ago that it is much easier and more rewarding working with those that don't know anything than those that know it all.
