TRAGGERD said he was getting some bow building tools for Christmas and didn't know what
to get to start.Now for sure you don't need all of these to build a bow but I am a tool nut and have gathered these up over the years,some work great some not so good but just to give him and Idea I thought this might help.I would start with a good draw knife and farriers rasp then a good scraper
and a few good wood files[the best you can afford] and then as you go along you can add to you
tools as you go along.[or not].I use all of these from time to time for different jobs but I want to
be clear you don't need all this stuff,or very own jamie makes them with nothing but a rock,but as I said I am a tool nut.Hope this helps you out.

The little files and gouges are great for working around knots and knot holes.The curved
scrapers and great for working in concaves and high and low spots in a stave.I use them
all the time.If you are working with good clean straight stave's or boards they wouldn't be
necessary but I don't do that much anymore.Yall post some of your tools so we can get an Idea
what people prefer.

Hey Pappy, is that a coring-tool next to the leather hole punch? Plus I dont see one of Gregs empty wine bottles,good for burnishing ya know.

No that is a hand scale,just hook it on the string and pull like you was shooting the bow and it will show the weight,the scale pulls a little pointer and it will stay on the weight reading until you
reset it.We have a case of them bottles under the work bench,full and empty.

The scale
is handy when you are by yourself and just want to make a quick check.

where did you run across that scale, i have been searching for one but am having a little trouble, i have been refering to them as a spring scale or bow scale maybe thats my prob.

I think I got it at one of them wheely bow shops,let me think about it and I will let you know.
I would just call it A hand held scale.It is pretty handy.

Pappy forgot to list a tool besides the wine bottles for burnishing...it is one of the most valuable tools that he and I have been using in recent years. EYE GLASSES for seeing!

Couldn't build a bow without them!
