2014 tradebow from steelslinger
« on: August 08, 2014, 01:50:14 pm »
I finally had a yellow slip staring at me through the window of my post office box...I had a package. Walked into the office and saw a long tube leaning against the wall. Wonder what that could be. I noticed the address was from Oregon and immediately thought yew or vine maple. I was not disappointed. Brad sent me a mighty fine vinemaple bow. First off this bow is drop dead gorgeous. It is hard to measure but I am getting 63-64" long and draws smoothly to 28" and feels to be at least 55#. It sends an arrow down range with authority and as brad mentioned in his letter, it shoots right were I look too. I am crazy about this bow Brad, thank you. It is completely different from anything I have ever done in design and wood selection as well. I will shoot the heck out of it and take it hunting too, seeing as how it shoots my broadheads perfectly. Enjoy the pictures.
It was great to be part of the trade again this year, thanks to all.
Bob

Wow!  He was good to you.  Agree with dbb, "cool profile".  I think I need to see a video of that being drawn.  I can't wrap my brain around that :)

I kind of thought you might not have one like it.  I'm glad to hear that you like it.

That turned out awesome, Brad. Nice score, rps3! I saw this bow in person and tried to wrap my feeble brain around it's tiller. It's definitely different but at that point Brad was well on his way to getting it to bend evenly so I'm sure he nailed it despite the crazy profile. Cant wait to see the full draw.

I am going to try and show off the beautiful finish a little better with a couple more pictures. I wish I didn't have to head off to work, I want to shoot this bow some more.

That's a very cool looking bow.  I bet it draws smooth as silk.  Nice work steel.

That is a wicked looking bow, very nice.  The full draw profile looks crazy, I love it.

Tillering this thing was a weird deal I basically tried to get the taper feeling right. I do not have a tiller tree so it was really hard to see what was working. A big thanks to Weylin for helping me with the finishing touches on the tiller.

The tip over/underlays are black walnut and the cordage wrap is coffee dyed jute twine.

Jeez that thing has like 20" of string follow  ;) he should make you a new one but send it to me first so I can inspect it  ;D  ;D. Very cool bow and unique design. Almost like a natural extreme hybrid bow. Isn't that a Egyptian angular bow design? Beautiful finish too.

This is the natural shape of the wood. The only adjustment I made was to add a little reflex to one of the tips to help even them out. I thought the profile was to cool on this piece of wood to not turn it into a bow.
