The ones that didnt get away
« on: August 29, 2014, 10:08:49 am »
We had a local bowfishing tourney last Sat. night for a guy that got crushed in one of the local mines here. We raised $3200 for him and we all had a great time. Me and my two buddies won biggest fish, you should have seen the ones we couldn't get in the boat. No joke if you do not get two arrows in these guys they are tough to get in the boat.

Yes, Pat these are bighead carp a variety of the invasive Asian carp. We persecute these big boys with extreme prejudice. They are over taking the rivers here. We have tons of the jumping silvers as well, but they do not get as large.

Never tried them, I have heard they are ok. We usually feed them to the hogs, they love them!

I've feed hogs that way , we would throw the carp in hole but had to open the gar up for them .
The big head carp I've seen were very oily ( comercial turtle trappers like them because of that ) and when a cut chunk of those carp hit the water you can see a oil shean on the surface and small beads of the oil will continue to come to the surface for quite a while .
I've heard they make good cut bait for blue cats also , not sure of that I haven't tried it ( I fish mostly for flatheads with live bait ) .

Seabass, I was hoping you would see this. The grassies are starting to come up and after seeing your bow at the Classic I am sure going to harvest some skins. We saw a few Sat. night, but were on a mission to get Moby Dick impaled. My offer is standing come on down.

Dang, those look more like sea monsters! They could swallow a teacup poodle if it fell into the water. Not that there'd be anything wrong with that...
