Danzn Bar:
Tracy,
I do agree with you, if you do have billets with the backs down to a good ring and the back and belly square with the sides perpendicular to the back and belly....and while your doing all of that you might a well add a little reflex to the stave.........
Sounds like a good weekend ..
DBar

Balsatech:
Thanks  D Bar, and thanks Dave for hosting this event. I don't live to far from you Dave ( Jess.Co.)  so if anyone needs anything durring the weekend I will be driving back and forth. The caul I have now is made from 2 by 6's  you tell me, I can see where 10's or 12's would work better if wanting to  use  C clamps. Any suggestions for lumber ?   Joe.

osage outlaw:
I think I used a 2x8 on my last caul

hedgeapple:
I think all my cauls are 2x6 as well.  Heck you can get 5 1/2" of reflex with a 2x6.  Now if you're really recurving the tip and are wanting add the reflex and recurve at the same time.  2x8 would probably be better.  I personally like to recurve my tips in a separate process.

TRACY:
Bill, my experience is limited and the fun doesn't begin until you start fitting the splices together. That's why squared ends are very helpful.  ;)
