Target Bow - Lovin the Red
« on: January 31, 2015, 03:21:11 pm »
Bamboo backed Yellowheart.  30# at 27".  64" NTN, 1 1/4" limbs, 3/8" tips.  The inner limbs are slightly hinged.

I've had trouble stringing bows during tiller, so I got this down until I could comfortably slip the string to the nock.  Turned out to be 30#.  May have to go to the gym.. :)  Probably should make to a tillering tree.

On my last bow, Del suggested a more finished tip.  I'm very happy with the way the oak overlays look on this one.  Thanks Del.

I wanted a lower weight bow to practice with - this one should give me plenty of target time.

Yo, nice lookin' bow. Great leatherwork.
The low draw weight bows can be surprisingly quick. One of my nicest is about 30#-35#

(Yeah and that nock is much smoother ;D )

Might as well make them short, save some wood to keep warm.

Nice bow, I like the color. If you have troubles stringing bow you can make a stringer, you just need a string and a piece of leather.

Nice work on a great looking bow!
I used to have problems with the string popping off on the tillering tree.  That will get your heart pumping  :)  Now I put overlays on right away and make a deep enough groove with a chainsaw file.

Nice job with that bow.  Yes, my all means, get you a bow stringer.  You always need one whether building bows or not.  That will help you out for sure.  Great leather work indeed.  Keep it going.

Nice work. Doesn't look like there is a hinge, thought the upper limb may be  bending a little more  near the fade.

You didn't ask, but, your drawing wrist is held at an angle that can irritate the tendons, on the outside. It's  also just easier to hold the back of the hand  in line with the forearm.

Good job!
And, yes, I too much appreciate a lower-pulling stick.  Then I can shoot, 'n' shoot, 'n' shoot, ............

Nice color on that bow!   I'm thinking of making a 35# target bow soon.  Looking good!
Talking trees. What do trees have to talk about, hmm... except the consistency of squirrel droppings?

Watch that pau am it may well chrysal over time in the spot where it's bend too much. It holds up for a good while then starts going, although this has been on much heavier bows for me.
