Man I love hearing words like "osage" and "yew" and "black Locust" . . .I keep thinking, "man, it would be cool to get a bow from that guy"  But I think about it with just about every post.  I have some Elm staves I think may work well, and I already have some ideas from stalking my guy.  I am going to try and make 2 or three between now and August, and ship whatever is the best of those.

My guy may get a shoot through the handle hole in the bow. He may get a hole in the limb or a z handle. He may just get the negative.  In other words, glue all the wood chips back in the shape of the stave without the bow in the middle  >:D

I love elm. I hate red elm, never had any luck, too much set. My favorite elm has a very tiny purple heart wood center.

Option one is a black locust take down. Flipped tips. Just about have my 2 billets one ringed. Option 2 is a juniper. Backed with white tail back sinew. I hope those east of me like those...or was it west? I guess we will find out soon enough.

I've got two nice hickory billets dried and ready to chase a ring for the back.  Plan to start on her next week.  I finished one bow tonight and have one more that I just glued the tip overlays on......so the trade bow will be in the works shortly.

Oh buddy wait till you see the log I'm splitting! There is a good bit of worm holes in it. You wouldn't call it top shelf till to see the wood inside of it! My rawhide backed character bow with antler tips is from the same stock! Super tough wood! Patrick

I've not decided between using an osage stave, or being risky and frisky with some local wood.  And being in Arizona, and not wanting to deal with Juniper, that means a real hunt for good wood.  I've been meaning to hunt some good New Mexico locust though.....

RE: hickory, how much, if any sap wood do you suggesst for a pignut hickory static recurve, and suggestions on length.

Got one limb one ringed. Black locust doesn't play around. I have never had to sharpen my draw knives more than once a bow. Throw out some ideas on take down ideas. If I can avoid buying a sleeve I would like that, and no glass either.
