Well, I gotta represent the Pacific NW so I can say for certain that my target is going to get either a yew bow or an ocean spray bow. The question is which style? I've got material for a real long yew bow, but I've also got a take down in the works and a nice 60" piece which is just begging for some sharp curves at the end.... On the the ocean spray side I have two bendy candidates which are holding 3+ inches of natural reflex after being pulled to about 18" . I also got billets and another T/D sleeve too. Or I could pull out all the stops and use my prize 62" x 2.5" OS log for something really crazy... That one is a bit wet still, but August is a ways off.

Man you got alot of choices there. I have always wanted to make a bow from yew. I would like to even just feel a well made yew bow in the hand at the shot.
But anyhow nice stash you have there

I love what EVERYONE IS working on. I've got a few bows in the works. My recipient has made a ton of bows, so I gotta specialize or exemplify, or SOMETHING!! As I sit here in the evening glow, I wonder at what I will send, and what I will receive.

Thanks Bob, I was lucky enough to find some nice pieces in the last year or so. I haven't actually made (or shot) a yew bow yet, but I'm liking it so far, seems very forgiving and is a pleasure to work with.

Well, I'm thinking about option 1 might be an all bamboo laminate bow, bendy handle. Option 2 may be a mulberry stave, bendy handle of course. Whichever turns out nicer I guess. Hope to get started this weekend, will post a pic or 2.

My project took a down hill turn when removing a knot ripped a gouge out the back from handle to 3" past the fade. I have never sinewed a bow and really think  it would survive without any.  However,  im gonna fille the large gouge with hide glue soaked hemp fibers, then Lebhuntfish ( Patrick ) is going to help me sinew over it, and finally black snake over that. Black snake and osage are a nice combo. The belly will be nicely toasted and going for a nice recurve to maximize the sinew. Also I have 2" reflex in the stave as she sits. Probably gonna put 4" into it. Really make that sinew work. Hope my guy is good at stringing a bow! >:D

Sleek, sounds like he may need a bow stringer for that one! Make sure you get all the Bending and heat treating done before we sinew it! Patrick

I just went up and reduced the upper limb and threw it on the caul for some reflex. As the limbs aren't yet fully cured they have been reduced, and clamped down for a few weeks. Time to start back up on the juniper. I start my on call week at work tomorrow, so I will be in the shop more this week.

Reflexed 3 staves on the caul today, dry heat. Sometimes my dry heat is a torch, but only if there's a lot of wood left. I have this thought that bendy-handled bows don't get an arrow rest, and stiff handled bows get a bit of a cut-out (sand-out) & rest. What do you guys think? Oh, the bows I worked on today are a long bamboo-backed ERC, two mulberry workers, a hackberry monstrosity, and an osage bow with one or two rings of sapwood that's actually for me.

Hey guys. Just finishing up a yew bow and a black locust bow. Either could be for my dude. I plan on making a bunch more, I'll pick the most suitable one closer to the end date. On our way to the classic maybe I'll give him the bow in person !
