Yeah make it as smooth as you want your bow when finished. Watch the growth rings in the pine too. I heat up my jig and burnish it. Those rings can leave marks in the back, like dents. Clamp a thin piece of metal over the stave to help stop the cracks. Patrick

It's been suggested that we post here what we intend to use our bows for. If you want to go hunting with your bow we don't want to send you something too shiny, but if you're going to treat the bow like a piece of gold we might as well make it look the part ;) ;D

I am a target shooter primarily.  I like pretty wood, but hunting bows look pretty too.

Probably targets for me too, I don't mind high or low gloss either way.

... I don't know, it might be better if Blaflair's is mirror-coated...

Black locust. Black locust everywhere.
Mollegabets all day long.
Might as well make them short, save some wood to keep warm.

Hunting for me, but a glossy bow has never kept me from hunting.

I'll use it for shooting arrows. Maybe at live targets, maybe at paper. Either way, a matte finish on wood is just as beautiful as a gloss to me!

Tyke, I have to become a better shot first.  wouldn't want to just wound something.  Not above taking my bow for a walk sometime, though.  Especially if it is pretty. . .yew, black locust, osage, cedar . . .the possibilities are endless.

I will definitely probably be doing some hunting with mine. But don't get to hunt a lot. A mat finish I think would be cool for mine. I will surely be showing it off too! Patrick

I have no preference to finish.  I hunt and target shoot. If I have a glossy finish I have some old cammo pants from the navy I will turn into limb sleeves to hide the gloss and protection from thorns etc...
