easy way to taper board bows with diy jigs ?
« on: March 09, 2015, 02:20:30 pm »
Hi, I am looking for a way to cut as close as possible or sand tapers in 1x2 board bows as fast as possible considering i would also not like to spend to much on a setup.

Does anyone have an ideas or plans about good ways to pretaper limbs of dimension lumber ?

Thanks

Make a lam grinder or a table saw rig

I just draw my taper on the edge of the board and run it though the table saw fee hand then clean it up with a rasp. I plan on making a table saw jig. It will run in the groove and the board will camp against a pre tapered block.

If anyone has an plans as requested that would be great. Thanks everyone.  I am looking at building one these sander thicknessers ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nzd34fH8frQ) for the lams anyways but not sure if it is the best option for the 1x2 into tapered limbs.

This is my journey ! It might not be the one you take or the one you suggest, that's why we all have our own journeys.  i was just hoping for some help with specific needs, to taper board bows with the best DIY jig.

Have a template then Use a hand plane and finish with a disk sander or belt sander.

I am trying to avoid hand planning and instead looking for something more like the thickness sander thing i posted above, will cut out the rough tapers on a bandsaw, just wondering if there is a better solution for lumber bows as those plans seem to be more about lams and thinner cores.

What kind of table saw setups do people have ?

Call Rudder Bows. They pump out boards all day. They may divulge a secret to mass production.

How long have you been building bows? I would suggest a taper sled with a bandsaw then put then on a horizontal taper sled through a drum sander. Are you trying to build them for yourself?
