I wonder if it will hold up?

Years ago when I was making this bow I strung it up and the tip over lay came off one side and pulled a 4" chunk of wood out of the back on the overlay side that the glue was still stuck to. I threw the almost tillered bow in the corner and forgot about it. Lately I have been splicing mismatched billets and digging through piles of half completed projects where I found this damaged bow from long ago.

I needed a project so I ground the back of the bow off below the missing wood and put on a patch/extra long overlay. My patch is mostly to one grain except on the leading edge, feathered out to very thin wood where it joins the limb and glued on with Unibond.

I have tillered the bow for the most part, with a lot of pulls on my tillering tree, there are no signs of failure so far. Hopefully I can resurrect this lost cause, time will tell.

Nicely done, the transition looks smooth and attractive. Be interesting to see how it holds up, keep us posted.

It will hold some of my bows have a 5-6" glued on with TB with the nocks past the end of the stave and hold with no problem
