My Colorado Elk Bow and Trip (added pics)
« on: September 27, 2015, 06:09:51 pm »
I just made this bow and have been shooting and packing for my elk hunt. This is the bow that I took with me. It ended up 57@26 which is a few lbs less than what I wanted but I like it the same.  I put the tips on the bow at mojam and finished it up here at home. I just added the leather grip two weeks before I left. I cut it entirely to close  but I'm happy with the result. I took a lot of pics because it was my first time in Colorado. I hope you guys don't mind.
The bow is an Osage selfbow with bacote and waterbuffallo horn for tips. The string is 14 strands of 452X . The leather is some deer that I traded from Roy some time ago. It measures  about 58in. nock to nock. It shoots a 625gr. arrow with authority. I never got the shot I wanted on an elk but I'll bet a whitetail or two will drop from it this season. Thanks for looking.

More coming...

And last but not least...

I have more but they are mostly the same. I forgot that this was also heated again at mojam and then the tips were flipped almost to the point of recurving. The limbs ended up kinda hybrid. Thanks for looking everyone.

I'd know that was yours if I found in a pile of fifty other bows, has your style all over it.  Fantastic bow for chasing elk Dave and the bend at full draw looks like serious business. To bad you didn't get a shot buddy, I heard you were out there and I was rooting for ya to take one down. How was the experience, did you see
a lot of them or have any close encounters?
I ain't broke but I'm badly bent.

Welcome home!

I got a chance to shoot it. SWEEEET!!

Look forward to hearing all about the trip.

Thanks guys.

Colorado was just what everyone says it is. I gassing a great time I can't wait to go back next year already. I did have a 35 yard encounter with a screaming bull and cow but I was sitting cross legged and that distance from that position was lit of my comfort range. Then I saw two other bulls close but to thick to shoot where they were. They will be waiting for me next year.

That full draw picture is great! Glad you saw some elk with that bow in hand at least!
May my presence go unnoticed, may my shot be true, may the blood trail be short. Amen.

Great looking bow Dave.  Wish you would have connected on a big bull.
I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

Beautiful bow Dave! I remember you working on that one at mojam. I'm glad you had some encounters. Man those big bulls can sure make your hair stand on end this time of year!
