Sno flakes again...
« on: October 25, 2015, 02:06:32 pm »
Over the last year there were at least two posts about snoflake obsidian. This is a point I did some time back. It is true sno flake with cristobalite crystals. Other obs referred to as sno flake has either ash pockets or pumice pockets and really can not be knapped at all. The cristobalite is a challenge to spall but can be sawn and worked ok. This one is from a slab.

That's amazing! What I'd trade for a dozen that looked like that tipping my hunting arrows. Like hunting in the snow so it'd be some natural camo
May my presence go unnoticed, may my shot be true, may the blood trail be short. Amen.

Not to steal your post, but I have only ever made one as well, and it was from a slab. Knifes for the men in my life,,, a Christmas gift. 2013.
