Eastern woodland bow

I made this bow about a month ago. It is my first serious bow. It is made of hickory and is about 68 inches long and 1 inch wide for its whole length. It was naturally reflexed, so when I strung it and shot it, it did take some string follow but is still slightly reflexed. It pulls 35 pounds at 29 inches. That is lighter than I wanted but it will get the job done. Their was a big knot on the upper limb that I worked around. It has a "D" tiller with the last 6 inches of each limb being stiff. The string is made of 3-ply twisted deer rawhide. Sorry I do not have a full draw picture.

Your bow is what this site is all abouit. Primitive!   Very nice bow. Do give us a full draw so it can be entered in February's Self Bow of the Month consideration.

This is one of my favorite style bows. I have one in my near future.  You may be able to reduce the amount of wood around the knot in the upper limb(increasing cast and reducing hand shock) because it is in a non-bending area(at least I think it is non-bending. Need full draw pic).     Pat

Nice bow. With that much length you could pike it and gain some weight. Bendy handle bows don't have to be as long as stiff handle ones. Good stuff. :)

That's great! - matches perfectly with your arra's. Don't worry about the weight thing, just grab another stave and start another one. Takes awhile to figure all that out ;).

Thanks very much for the copliments.
Also thanks for the tips. I was thinking about reducing the length to gain weight but I decided just to make another in the near future.
I was happy how the pictures turned out. This was the first time I used a lamp to shine light on what I was picturing.
I will try to get a full draw picture either today or tomarow.

I agree with every body else. Thats a nice bow Mike. Yeah you could probabley gain 5# just taking an inch of the top.  Danny
