daniel:
Hi,
I'd like to get some purple heart footing blanks from 3 Rivers and would like to know how heavy that wood is (8" long, by 1/2"x1/2")
Does it plane well? I only use hand tools (thumb plane, rasp, sandpaper)
I know many of You Guys have experience with that wood
anyone?
thanks

i have never worked purple heart but i heard it is super hard and wreaks havoc on tools

it sure is pretty when it is done

That it does! But its tough as nails. Should take a pounding especialy as footings!

daniel:
if its so tough its probably heavy as well
I have pink ivory blanks: super dense, heavy (over 450 grain for 8"x 3/8x3/8) and extremely difficult to work with
