Ostra Virginiana Selfbow
« on: June 05, 2016, 11:12:16 pm »
This is my first try at a hophornbeam stave. I got the stave from half eye a few months ago and have been chipping away at it while building my new house. Both the house and bow have come together at about the same time. I should be moving in next week! I really like the wood. I didn't heat treat it, but I will next time. Rich definitely hooked me up with some premium stuff because this stave we half of one of the two he sent me, and it was the worst one of the four. Thanks again rich! Anyway, after working this one I knew I wanted skins for it and wdbs were the only way to go. I out up an as in the trades and got nothing , but strongman said he could help me out. So a month passes and I see Scott at the classic and we chat a bit and struck a trade and let's just say that Scott did me right, so thanks man! Also thanks for the knitting lesson. I came home , finished the bow, skinned it and love the way it looked but couldn't decide on black or brown leather for the handle wrap. Only myself and the neighbor picked brown, but I like it. So here it is, hope you like it. Thanks for looking.

That's a beautiful bow.  HHB is one of my favorite bow woods.  I'm glad you got to try it out.
I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

Beautiful bow I've got a bunch of HHB curing now one on a long string. So far I've just made a kids bow for my grandson and a mini for Marshall from HHB but I really like it.

Tips are some kinda lookers! Ya know how I feel about that handle ... sweeeet.

Had opp to see it in the flesh few days ago. Looks even better than the good pictures convey. Congrats, Mr Dvs.
