Longbow
« on: September 20, 2016, 01:26:54 pm »
One longbow, 48# @ 28". Materials are bamboo, maple, cumaru and ipe, power lam and handle piece are wenge, horn nocks. Length 178 cm, width 27 mm. About 20 mm set. It was about 40 mm reflexed and now about 20 mm. Epoxy finnish. Quite fast bow and I am quite satisfied too...

Quite nice, Tuomo
and even though it is a laminate on the inside, it looks quite "primitive" on the outside.
was your reflex kept more towards the tips? A side view pic of the bow braced would be a positive addition to the thread.

how do those arrows fly?

Looks real nice. I'm a little confused but I really do like it. Unconventional construction with the power lam, usually see that with shorter flatbows(no reason not to use it on a longbow though). It has horn nocks, but I can't tell if it has an English style belly? Very interesting, looks cool, nice work.

Thanks! Yes, this is not traditional english longbow, it has only similar style. I wanted non-bending handle, so that is why I used power lam. I used full length and pre-tapered laminates, so the handle needed some thickening. It has also flat belly with rounded corners. The reflex was gradually increasing toward to the tips. I think, this is quite understressed design and realization of the longbow but I wanted to go with performance first.

This was made to order. The customer got it Friday and shot it Saturday in the biggest primitive archery competition here in Finland. He finished second. He is of course very good archer but maybe the bow was also easy to shoot. Tuned arrows were with the bow.

Very nice work! Glad the new owner shoots it so well. Imagine what he can do with it with a little more time to bond.
