snakey hawthorn bow went bang!
« on: October 08, 2016, 12:13:31 pm »
Got the sijahs aligned, floor tiller all looking good, took it to brace and......

guess I didn't leave enough wood around the knot.................am just going to have to build something else to use the sijahs in, be a shame to waste them

Draw weight was a little low, but more than an equivalent hazel stick , I think.  Bow went bang with no warning - no tick, nothing, just bend and bang!

That's too bad. Have you made many bows out of hawthorn? I've got some seasoning been wanting to try a sapling I have that's got a natural r/d shape. Just wondering how it is for self bows? Cheers- Brendan

This was my first one, I always knew this stick was marginal at best and I think hawthorn is likely to be a really good bow wood
