I've worked on getting these Honey Locust billets ready for splicing. I'm doing the same design on this Honey Locust as I am for my Juniper bow. If the Juniper doesn't make it this is my back up. It is also providing practice so I have better know how when I do the same thing for the juniper.

I've discovered it's much harder getting a good fit than I would have thought. As you can see I'm not the most precise with the band saw, but after some boiling and clamping they came together pretty good. There's no light coming through on the inner splices on the side but there's a little showing at the tips. It's such a small gap I'm having a hard time figuring out what to put in there as a shim. Since its the tips do I even have to worry about that? I plan on gluing them together tomorrow with system three's T88. Any word of advice before I do?

They will try to spread apart lengthwise when you clamp them so arrange something to stop that. Some people drill a hole though and put a small dowel through it. I don't like that so I clamp a couple of blocks to a 2x4 to stop them. A "Z" splice is easier to adjust IMO but it's to late for that. Also you can prop the tips up to induce a little reflex if you need(or want) it

So I would be done except I've been using course grit sand paper to get this thing to floor tiller. I want a smooth perfect belly and it allows me to make adjustments slow enough to catch a mistake but also it allows more time to adjust my ideas and what I want to what the tree would best perform at. I'm thinking it should be tiller ed and strung this weekend maybe

I posted some 3 days ago? I think.....
I'll post more Saturday night after I work on it I've used a rasp and a draw knife up to this point. It is really soft wood so heavy duty sand paper takes off just enough to be able to take my time. Otherwise I'll rush and mess it all up.
