A bow for Fred Arnold, 1949-2016
« on: March 27, 2018, 10:48:43 pm »
After Fred Arnold passed away, I emailed his son, David and sent condolences.  I told David how much I appreciated his father's help as I was getting started--Fred is one of the people that made this place feel like a community that I could belong to.  David responded by offering me one of his father's staves. I was happy to accept, and a while later he sent me a beautiful piece of osage.  This bow is my way of remembering Fred and what he did for me and this group.  I hope you enjoy looking at it.

Some stats:
-Length: 64" knock-to-knock
-Width:  1.5" parallel to midlimb, then tapering down to 3/8"
-Draw:  55# @ 29 inches
-Tip overlays:  laminated layers of buffalo horn, deer antler, and cow horn
-Static recurve that started with 2" of setback.  After shooting it in, the bow has taken just over an inch of set--all mid-limb.
-Finish is 7 coats of tung oil buffed out with a pumice slurry.
-string is made of 10 strands of powerpro fishing line.  silencers are rabbit fur.

some more. . .  I can't seem to get some of these pictures to rotate properly.  Not sure why.  I have never had that problem before.

It looks like you nailed it, Jeff. I'm sure Fred would be proud of this bow.

Outstanding. Obviously, you learned a lot. That's one beautiful bow.
