Montana Hawthorne Bendy 58#@27”
« on: May 01, 2018, 10:27:11 am »
James Rempp and I did a stave strade a couple years back. I sent him some Oregon Crabapple and he wanted me to try out some Hawthorne from his home state of Montana. Not sure if it’s different from the other species or from the kind we have here in Oregon.
It’s a good tension wood reminded me a lot of Hazelnut/Filbert, but with a bit more compression strength.
Loved the natural reflex his stave had, didn’t bother heat treating this bow. All and all she follows the string about 3/4” one tip was reflexed a hair so I used a bit of steam to get the other end to match.
Total length is 54” nock-to-nock and I think 1 5/8” and it’s widest.
Tanned and dyed beaver tail laceless leather grip.
Miwok style Nocks and Mojave Rattler skins for accent, couldn’t bring myself to cover up that good lookin wood. Which I stained with light brown leather dye.
The tiller was odd Bc not only is it an ‘S’ shape but it has some twist. So when flipped around the tiller looks different from the other side.

P.s. sorry no FD can’t take a FD shot in my chair.

Beautiful color on that stick.  I like the way you wrapped the skins at the tips. Nice work Bryce

Purdy, Purdy bow. I could pick your work off at 100 yards :)

Very nice Bryce, that sure does look like some friendly competition. Hope that's getting entered in the BOM. Sure would like to see it bend. I'm sure it's sweet.

You sure do make some stunning bows. This one is no exception.

Yeah, Buddy! That turned out awesome. I've been waiting for you to post this one. I've seen this bow in person and it's even cooler in your hands.

Yeah I posted it to enter Bc I guess they lacked entries
I’m gonna try and get a FD tomorrow when someone is home.

I thought it would take more set than it did. It’s a good wood but it’s not super impressive. A lot like hazelnut.

Thanks for the kind words fellas! :) appreciate it.
I’ll try and post more bows, just haven’t really been into taking pictures and all that Jazz lately
