Theme I am picking up on Season 11 is that food storage is seriously problematic. S11 E8 shows the guy catching a couple nice pike and leaving them in the river on stringers to keep them alive and fresh. I saw that and said BRILLIANT IDEA....and then the fish got stolen. GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!

I think that proves my point that in this situation you should NOT go easy on eating when you have the food. Eat it, eat as much as you can hold. Store those calories in your own danged body, not where they can be stolen from you in a cache.

Ya I seen that, they had a lot of trouble keeping food, seemed everything wanted a piece of the pie, especially when it got cold.  :)

Frankly I am very disappointed that all of them sleep without something warm to cuddle up against. Pick out some good stones and heat them slowly by the fire until you can barely handle them with bare hands. A big ol' flat rock under your lower legs and feet, and another the size of your chest inside the bag and up against the small of your back or clutched to your chest.

Timber was (rightfully) concerned about his one foot being completely numb and the other mostly numb. A rock slowly heated next to the fire will soak up a lot of thermal energy and slowly release it back to the environment. And unlike your partner, it's not gonna react all dramatic like and shout "GAAAAAH! GET THOSE ICY FEET OFF ME!"

On a cold and lonely night a nice toasty rock will rock you to sleep!

And a warm rock doesn't get mad if you bring another hot rock into the bed roll with you ;)

And a warm rock won't care if you replace it with a hotter, geologically younger rock.

I remember one guy, don't remember the season, who caught fish like crazy, smoked and dried them then was removed from the show for starvation reasons with 30 or so fish still waiting to be eaten, he was rationing his supply of fish too stringently.

You must have a lot of fat in your diet. Just meat or fish won't do.

Absolutely. I remember an elderly couple was deemed no longer competent to care for themselves because they would not heat their farmhouse during a bitterly cold winter. The sheriff found them wearing all their clothing and in bed under all their blankets. He paid for a tank of propane, lit their furnace and said he'd be back again soon to check on them. The next day he went back and they were bundled up in bed again. They'd SHUT OFF THE FURNACE! When pressed to explain, they said they were saving the propane "for an emergency".....it was -35F!!! Being thrifty with your resources are inportant, but they cannot be your only deciding factor. And especially more so in the situation where there is a finite amount of time for the game and you always have a tap out option like the contestants do.

And you are right, WF. Fat intake on Alone is often a deciding factor. In Season 11 the lucky ones were catching sheefish/inconnu along with the northern pike. Pike have a fat content of 0.9%, but the sheefish have 2.9%! Sheefish are 115 calories per 100 grams, pike has 88 calories per 100 grams.
