I was checking the thickness of ice for ice fishing the other day and took my camera along. Some deer were browsing cleaning up on soybean stubble. This buck with a bunch of does has survived the gun season so far. You'll notice he's lost his left rack already. That happens a little early once in a while.
Ice is plenty thick enough for getting some bluegills, but the warmer inbetween weather can make it a bit sketchy.

His chance of making it to next season probably got better with the half rack missing Ed. Now he can work at gaining some weight back to make it through winter.

Did it shed the rack or was it broken off during the rut? We had a nice buck on our place with one side broken off before the brow time. I came home one night and it was standing in my driveway. I got a good look at it. Must have been a crazy fight to snap it off like that.

If I had to say I would say he lost it from fighting. The winter is being mild again here.So far anyway....Ha Ha so their weight health seems pretty good.He knows though there will be does coming into estrus though as they miss some. Some fawns sometimes are almost too young or not mature enough to come in first time too.
I saw a big 8 with half a rack one time before the end of october once.Loss of rack had to be from fighting.Called him half rack all the time.He never got close enough.
One year I had my nephew and his son over here for late season muzzle loader hunting. That's late december/early january here. They said they scared an 8 point that in the deers' process of taking off they saw it lose half the rack.I had him take it home with him.

Hi Guys,
I have another hog at the feeder, going to try, and get him soon. He has a coat of ice on him. Makes him really look wild.

This is from a few seasons back. The same night I got a pic of a bobcat and one of my domestic cats. The two pics are overlayed shows a comparison of the cats.

That's an unusual pic of the cats. Are you sure they are not colluding?

I get a decent amount of coyote pictures on my camera. They are usually on the small side, either females or young males. This one stood out. Looks like a very healthy male. I had pictures of several others and they weren't as big as this one.
