59" Osage Bendy
« on: January 24, 2019, 01:04:32 pm »
This is the bow that lifted a splinter after shooting a few arrows, and I asked for help on how to fix it.  I wrapped the splinter with sinew and let it dry and have since shot a couple hundred arrows through it, and it seems to be holding nicely.  The splinter was so close to the center that I decided to just make the fix into a primitive sinew handle wrap.

My original goal with this bow was to make a simple no nonsense hunting bow; no shelf, no r/d, no handle, nothing on the bow that didn't need to be on it.  I am very happy with the outcome.  It's just osage, sinew, a little glue, and tru oil.

Specs:
62# @ 28"
58.5" NTN
About 1" wide tapering to just under .5" wide tips
15.3 oz weight (not even a pound,  :))

A special thanks to Rich who walked me through tillering a bend in the handle bow, Don who helped me in the initial layout, and everyone else who helped with the splinter fix.

This was my 1st osage stave and I have to say I see what all the fuss is with it; it's a joy to work.  And this bendy style is fun to make, and even more fun to carry in the woods.   :BB

That bow looks to be bayou bent by you, Bayou Ben!  Ha! That has a certain rhythm to it, don't it just!

I like that bow as much as i like collared greens, which is to say any day and every way.  Your nocks are particularly elegant and refined, no doubt about it.  Whatcha got there is a fine piece of work, sir!

Congratulations on the bow Ben. Happy Hunting. I can see you put a lot of pride in that bow. Just remember hunting like this might not be easy, but it's not impossible and it's really rewarding. Enjoy it, experience it, marvel in it. Just watching it all unfold around you is rewarding in itself.
