Hickory pyramid bow
« on: March 07, 2019, 01:32:05 pm »
Hi everyone, I've been away for awhile. Still building bows but never get around to posting. Such a pain to upload pictures. I'm not real tech savvy. Anyhow wanted to share my most recent build. It's a 65" hickory pyramid bow with black walnut overlays. It pulls 44#@28" and only took a half inch of set and a half inch of string follow after shooting. Hopefully I'm successful with the upload this time around. Thanks for looking, Jon

Nice bow,  could the fades be bending more.  I'm sure others will chime in about the profile.

I'm not squared up in the picture. I can assure you it's bending coming out of the fades.

Nice looking bow!  Well done!  I bet it’s a sweet shooter.

Looks good.
What kind of finish do you have on it?

I used five coats of tru-oil. Just rubbed on and steel wool in between

Bow looks good.
I can see what Woodely is saying about the tiller. Pyramid bows usually have a bit more bend near the fades than  bows with more parallel limbs because the widest part of the limbs is near the fades. Its more pronounced when a pyramid bow has really wide limbs over 2". Nevertheless your bow has little string follow, so I think you have still done well. It can be tricky to find the balance because the last place you want concentrated set in any bow design is near the fades.  How wide are your limbs?

I was probably around two inches at the fades. I don't have the exact measurements because I already have it to my buddy. Here's a tiller pic when it was almost finished. I was stiff in the one fade and gave it few final scrapes

After this photo was taken I scraped the lower limb in the fade area. I tillered the bottom limb about a 1/4" stiff
