Crown Jewel: 40# @ 27"
« on: July 29, 2021, 08:58:33 pm »
I built this bow from the crown of a HHB tree I cut almost three years ago.  I completed it at the start of 2020, and it has been shooting well ever since.  I don't know exactly how many arrows have gone through it, but it still has taken only about 1/2" of set and is still a snappy shooter.  I just wrapped up refinishing for the second time, and I am very happy with the results.  I love how natural it looks; it is a classic stickbow.

Stats:
40# @ 27"
66" ntn
1 1/2" wide mid limb
FF String
Deer antler tips
Buckskin handle and floppy arrow rest

More Photos.  This will be my primary shooter at Elm Hall, so some of you will have a chance to inspect it in person.  Hope you like it.  ;D

at that length and draw weight, I bet that bow is a joy to shoot a lot of arrows. Nice looking bow.

Yea, looks like you are setting behind that 40# balanced out nicely...

Looks pretty sweet to me.  Love that arrow rest idea!

Thank you for all your comments!
It really is a nice shooter.  It will probably never chase deer, but it is a lot of fun to target shoot and rove with.  The string actually tracks pretty close to the side of the bow, which really helps with accuracy.

Looks pretty sweet to me.  Love that arrow rest idea!

I wish I could take credit for it :)  The 'Ferret' published the idea in PA years ago.  It shoots like off you hand, but it spares you the scrapes. Mine is actually quite rigid because I put it together with superglue, but it could be made to be soft.

Oops, that should have been 3/4-1" set after being unstrung a while.  It's obviously a bit more after shooting on a muggy day.  I was shooting it with a 5" brace height yesterday and it seemed to be a bad day, but I brought it up to 6" and it improved so much. :)  Now I should know not to shoot 12 arrows into the same target, another dead knock. :(
