How predictable are Turkeys?
Russ:
so on my way to school i always pass by a field. A couple weeks ago i saw a whole flock of turkeys and then the next day i saw 2, then i saw nothing. Now every couple of days i either see turkeys at 8:00 or 10:00 but i cant tell if they are the same ones.
I feel like there is a pattern... i know Deer and rabbits frequent their trails, and turkeys their roosts, but how predictable are turkeys outside of that? do they have a "Favorite" field or something? will the frequent specific fields or do they just wander?
Buckskinner:
Sometimes very, sometimes not. I had them where I could tell what time it was when I saw them and others where they could leave the roost and go in any direction. If they are limited in food sources they can be very predictable especially in winter or before things start growing. Just like most game, lots of variables can affect behavior.
JW_Halverson:
Just like deer, they are absolutely predictable until they aren't!
Just remember that even if you can't see them that doesn't mean they are not close by. That's why we call them!
Russ:
That’s what I was afraid of, but it’s what I was expecting :). Thanks for the answers guys! Here’s to hoping I can find hunting mentor and hopefully get a turkey. :-M :G
bradsmith2010:
agree with above, ,but its a great start to see them,, hunt those areas and you will see somewhat of a pattern,, even if its not seeing them,,
