Yew ELB with feature knot
« on: June 16, 2022, 10:47:20 am »
I haven't posted for a while, here's my latest. A challenging stave with a lot of deflex in one limb and a hint of relex at each end (see before and after side by side pic).
It took a fair bit of steaming and some heat treating to get it vaguely symmetrical. Now when it sits on the floor belly down I can just get one finger between floor and grip (it was about 4 fingers originally!)
The sapwood is a rather dissappointing grubby colour, a bit gray in parts but it seemed to be sound
It's pulling about 77# @ 29" in the full draw pic.
The knot was a bit of a challenge at that draw weight, so I kept the bow long, 77.5" ntn. I allowed a little extra width at the knot but no extra on the belly.

Hey Del,

It looks like the upper limb (left side) could bend a little more towards the tips.
Or is it on purpose?

Yeah, makes sense - I looked at the string and the serving in the middle looks like the left side was the upper limb.

That's my magic adjustable string  ;D ... (long string adjusted by threading it through a metal loop)
