New Stave Pess

(1/2) > >>

Burnsie:
Finished up this bow press/vice over the weekend.  Hope to also make an attachment with a conventional vice.

Pappy:
Nice , I have a couple of those, they work great. :)

Burnsie:
It was nice to have a brother-in-law with a lot of scrap metal - especially the large square tubing.

Pappy:
I have 1 bought one and one home made, the home made one is a lot tougher than the bought one, they work great once you learn to use them, the top plate seems to be the trouble if you crank it down at a bad angle, I cut a few blocks of different thickness that stay with the press to level it out on the odd angled pieces or a wedged stave, that helped a lot. :)

My brother made one for me. He used two pieces of round pipe, one the fit over the other, and put 2 set bolts on to lock them stationary for the base. I can center a stave in it, then spin it around without have to remove the stave when tillering. I added some 10 oz leather to the bottom and the top plate so as not to damage the stave. Also we welded a horizontal rod ( T- handle) to the top of the all thread. It works great.
