Burnsie:
I found one of those telescoping pipes that are used under basement support beams. The smaller of the two pipes is welded to the the vise/press unit, and it slides down into the larger stand pipe.  I cored a hole in my garage floor and the stand pipe slides about 10" down into the ground.  I still need to drill a hole in the side of the stand pipe and weld on a nut to put a set bolt in, to keep it from spinning.
I'm thinking about also coming up with a version that will fit into the receiver hitch of my truck, so I can use it if I go to one of the many selfbow gatherings.

I have a HME game hoist for the receiver on my truck. By put mine on a short base I can bolt it to my pictured WorkMate, but also rigged up an attachment that will fit the lower stabilizing bracket of the HME hoist  that the press will attach to also so I can take it with me to shoots or camping also.

I love my stave press.  I just a keep a couple chunks of wood at different thickness that i put in it to hold the staves in different orientations.
