Have large amount of mulberry bushes producing fruit at the moment. When would be the best time to harvest these shoots to use them for arrows?

Never done arrows with mulberry
this time of year it should be easy to debark but may induce too much check
All mulberry here are heavily attacked by Takahashia japonica
