I am rebuilding the PA site
« on: September 25, 2025, 03:52:43 pm »
The Primitive Archer page  is being rebuilt to be more interactive. There will be features that were in the magazine that will be a part of the web page, such as bow of the month ( more on that later ) that will be featured on the front cover page, and other favorites. If you had favorite features of the magazine you would like to see again, post them here. Your input will make a difference as the page gets revamped. Don't worry, the forum will also be getting the much needed updates we all want but the community we love will remain unchanged. That said, one of the many topics I really enjoyed in the magazine was the cooking articles. If there are any chefs in the house with a palette for primitive dishes, feel free to message me, I want your highly valuable input on the new page.

This is going to require some expenses and I am not capable of bearing that cost alone. So I am turning to you, this community for help. To be clear, I'm not passing the hat looking for donations, and I'm not hiding the PA page behind a paywall. This community belongs to itself, anything like that would ruin this dynamic, and I'm not asking for donations. You deserve something for your contributions. So, the solution is an end of year giveaway.

The idea: The intent is to highlight contributing members and make the front main page interactive. Contributing members will get their name in a hat for an end of year drawing for donated items including a bow, either made by me or another member who volunteers for the task. Check in for updates as the prize pot grows!

If you want to donate anything, let me know via email at [Primitivearchermagazine@gmail.com](mailto:Primitivearchermagazine@gmail.com) to discuss details. Every December or January ( still workshopping that ) I will do a drawing amongst contributing members.

  Methods of contributions:
The BEST contribution will ALWAYS be your participation in the community, always remember that!
To be involved in direct financial support of this page and its upgrades, $20 a year can be sent via mail to the PO box or via cashapp at $PrimitiveArcherMag, and we may set up a square account as well. If those payment options won't work for you, please email to tell me what is best for you.

Additional ways to qualify for the drawing event:
•article writing for the webpage
•primitive recipe features/threads
•threads with high participation
•complete build alongs
  -bows
  -arrows
  -string making
   -primitive lifestyle
   -etc...

Anyone who writes something that is featured on the new main page gets an entry into the end of year event. Features will be decided on by Admin and Mods. They will include, hot topics aka threads with high participation, complete build along threads for any primitive style art including cooking, bows, arrows, knapping, tanning, string making, pottery... smoke signals, you get the idea.

As hinted at earlier, we are doing Bow Of The Month again! Each winner will be rewarded with a free entry into the drawing. If there were things about BOM that you particularly liked or disliked please use this thread as an opportunity to discuss. I know several previous BOM winners did not receive their hats. I am working on trying to remedy that. Please reach out to me if you are one of them with "HAT" as the subject. In case I am not able to get the hats out, I will come up with another plan, maybe free entries into the give away, or some other reward, but it will not be a situation that goes ignored and unresolved.

This is YOUR community and I am looking forward to your presence, contributions, and most importantly, your participation. Together, lets make this group better than its ever been.

Make certain you let me know who you are when you cashapp or mail your 20, so I can accurately put your name and how to contact you in the spreadsheet for the drawing!

One thing I'd like to see if possible is an article in the first 3 issues of PA Magazine. It was called "Arrows 101". I had asked Monroe about reprinting it but he said that it was before his time at PA and didn't know if he had the rights to it. If possible I think it would be a great article for anyone interested in primitive arrows, making arrows from natural shoot shafts and cane.
Also in 2007 I believe, I wrote an article called "The Story of Elkie" in PA Magazine. Elkie was a bow I made for an elk hunt in the San Juan Mountains of SW Colorado with Kenneth Gorman(Little John here on PA). At the end of the hunt I gave Elkie to Kenneth for inviting me to hunt with him and our wood bows. I talked to Kenneth just recently and he is still hunting with Elkie. At some time in the future he may even be willing to donate Elkie either at the Tenn Classic or here on PA
I also have bows and other paraphernalia with PA history that I would be willing to donate.

I remember devouring that article in the magazine and gazing longingly at the photos in a euphoric haze. Then in late 2008 I joined the forum and saw the author of the article posting and commenting. I was starstruck. Sometime later I said something here that I later was educated to know was a racist term and the moderator that schooled me gently and kindly was the author of that article. Chastised and yet knowing I was forgiven, I knew that author, moderator, and gentleman was going to be someone I would pattern myself after. Since then, I have come to know and cherish that feller with the epic whiskers.
