Black locust 43# at 30” grass carp backed
« on: October 31, 2025, 02:25:30 pm »
Been a while since I’ve posted on here. I finally figured out how to open the site on my phone. So I’ll be updating with some of the projects I’ve finished recently.

First up is a black locust bendy handle backed with grass carp skins. Handle wrap is piraracu skin with goat lace. The overlays are brazilwood. Nock to nock is 63”, handle is 1” wide with 2” fades where it’s 1 3/8” wide to midlimb then tapers to 3/8” nocks. Set is sitting at about an inch.

Thanks for looking

Kyle

Something about your style, I could recognize your work almost anywhere. How well do those fish skins hold up and keep their color over time? They sure look neat.

Nice bendy handle boy, Kyle. Where do you get piraracu skins? Carp shin is one of my favorite decorative backings and it's strong enough to help protect the back.

Looks like a fishing bow!  Those grass carp skins are so nice.  Wish common carp were that pretty.

Thanks guys!

As far as I’m aware they’ll keep their look pretty decently. But we’ll find out.

Whistling badger: here’s an Osage with common carp skins for comparison I’ve just started putting truoil on. Currently at 1 layer. . Personally I like the common carp look better, but the grass carp is far easier to work with. Scales pop easier and the skins aren’t near as greasy
