A little carp skin comparison

<< < (3/3)

Pappy:
Both beautiful, never done but 1 with carp skin and like a dummy gave it away,  ??? Leave it to me to be different but like the common carp better.
 Pappy

Bob Barnes:
I agree with you Kyle.  In that picture I like the common carp look better.  It seems to have more contrast and more of a uniform pattern.  Great job.   :OK

GlisGlis:
How do you dry your fish skins? do you salt them?

Mo_coon-catcher:
The process I roll with is to scale the fish, make the cuts you want the skin to peel or it will rip where you don’t want it to, flesh the skin clean of all fat and meat, wash with dawn, then spread them out on a piece of plywood to dry. When ready to use rehydrate in water with a little soap. Next I’m going to give them a wash in a stronger degreaser before gluing in and see how they turn out.

Kyle

GlisGlis:
I do the same but i also add salt on the flesh side while drying
I wonder if salt absorb part of the oil
