Simple Hickory Recurve for 3D selfbow class
« on: December 24, 2025, 05:11:04 pm »
I had one Adirondack knot free bow core left and wanted to try a long recurve. 68"ntn - whopping 36#@28". 19 ounces.
Steamed in the recurves on a simple form I made. Pretty snappy and easy smooth draw. Handle is red oak, Ipe, and bacote. Tip overlays are padouk.

It's got some nice curves, and is well tillered.  Nice combo for the handle woods, too. Nothing wrong with a 36lber for some enjoyable shooting.

Nice looking bow barebo. Reminds me I need to get back after it and make some shavings.

That looks like a sweet shooting bow, the Ipe makes for a really gorgeous riser. Nice job!

Many thanks to all. From November 2023 to January 2024 I made 3 longbows in 3 months with the hickory and 2 were hickory backed and 1 was bamboo backed. I was lucky to have a buddy whose son worked at a local sawmill and he picked out some nice clean random width boards for me. The recurve was the last of the stash. Few photos of the longbows.
