Heat treating Buffalo River
leapingbare:
So i tyred to heat treat some buffalo River chert last night and this morning when i looked at it there was no change in texture, only a change in color went from a dull light brown color to a Rusty color brown.
I cooked it in a pan of sand in the oven at 550' for one and a half hrs. The Kansas chert i heat treat changed and became waxier. But its the buffalo river that i would like to get waxier.
Anyone ever had any success heat treating Buffalo River?

Jesse .....I cant find a Thing on Buffalo River....but I did find this....in case it may be helpful in the Future....why do you want to Heat Treat it anysways??? Everything I have read says that it flakes great without Heat....is it for the Color Change???
