Yew sneak peek

  Roughed this one out a few weeks ago and it's been drying nicely. Going to be for a friend ;)  Yew; elevation 4600.  about 1 1/4 " natural reflex.  60" long going to be aiming for  60 lbs @ 28' probably going to flip the tips a little.

So Keenan how would you rate the overall quality of that stave as it compares to your locally gathered stuff? If it's typical, it sure looks like a great piece, nice and clear. Dave

 Gordon, this should finish about 1 3/4"  at the fades, about 1 3/8" mid limb, and 1/2" at the tip for width. Thickness should be about 3/4" at the fades, 5/8" at mid limb, 1/2" at the tips,  More of a flat bow with very slight oval profile and  slightly more rounded on the top. At least thats the plan.  Fairly tight grain, so I'm expecting it to be fairly strong.

  David. we do have some nice yew up here, but trying to find an area where it's straight and limb free can take some miles of searching and then there is jumping threw the hoops for the Forest Service 
 
 Ryan sure hope so, can't wait to see the look on his face  ;) Not sure what I'll do to the back. May try a new type of skin

Nice yew stave, Keenan. I've grown to appreciate yew with the few bows I've built with it. I'm rough on bows and so far I haven't destroyed my this year yew hunting bow  ;D .

looks like you are anther adventure with some of GODS WOOD.or thats what i call it...keenan,i really need to buckel down some time and come over and learn some bow making..i have kind of given up on it...did you see my knapping work on pp.great job.GOD BLESS..john

Thanks for the encouragement everyone, You would think by now I would be having it done in a few days but someting about nice tight grained yew that makes you go slow and cautious. Like maybe the thought "I'm going to hate myself if I blow this one" :o
