OK, I snuck out of the house and took a few pics with the new digital contraption. (It actually works REALLY good...no wonder the wife commandeered it).

Anyway, this is  a set that I made for one of my daughters.
It is a neo-primitive set...I used modern dyes, paints, and materials.
This first pic is the complete outfit: fox skin quiver (commercial tanned), ipe bow, and birch dowel arrows.
The bow draws 7# @ 16".


Pheasant tail fletching.


Self nocks.


Sharpened wood tips.


The arrows were carved from a 5/16" birch dowels.
They are bobtailed and spined to match the bow....which was not easy.


IMO is just as difficult (or even more difficult) to make a child's arrow as it is to make an adult arrow.  For one, it's got to stand up to abuse, the fletch wrapping has to be smooth to prevent "ouches" when firing the arrow (as the arrow passes over the bow hand), and it has to shoot as well at 2 ft as it does out to 20 ft.  It has to look "cool" too.  Quite a challenge. ;D

Jackcrafty: lol what i meant was the bird behind the quiver, my pet bird, seems to find his way into a few pictures every once in awhile.
I used black rit dye on the feathers and as you can see the cockfeather is gray(not barred)

Depending on the bow, up to 250 meters, i don't think the wood is ramin, the person i aquired it off thought it may have been japanese oak?

It was a very heavy board before i cut it up and the arrows still have a spine of just over 60lbs so they are quite strong. Their colour (color) is natural

Ok I dont think they had artificial sinew in 1900?? But would it be accepted?? It really is no diferent than wraping with thread or silk..I just like useing it.. ;D

David, you can enter the primitive category with artificial sinew if you like....but I don't think you'll get many votes.  Who knows?

I bet some people are already thinking that the modern category should be called something else.....like "neo-primitive".  I might actually change the name of the category....maybe more people would submit pictures.  Whatcha think?

Here's some I finished recently there was 8 in the set but I gave 4 away along with a bow to a young man that lost his father :'(
Anyway rivercane with the nodes removed, wild turkey feathers hand cut glued and wrapped with silk thread, self nocks with 145g
field points, stained with leather dye and sealed with tru-oil. Someone else can figure out if their modern or primitive ::)
