Leapingbare's rock.
« on: November 08, 2008, 03:00:38 pm »
I got a kinda surprise gift from Leapingbare about a week ago - thanks Jesse and thier will be a return gift :). It was three chunks of Horsecreek chert, one heat treated and two raw. I've been beating on rocks off and on for the last few days - that heat treated one was calling my name today. Here's the result, that stuff has some amazing colors in it.

Thats awsome. That point has the classic horsecreek color. You do really good work Paul, your work inspires me. I'm glade you got a point out of it.
I really like this stuff.
Its probably my favorite rock to knapp. I enjoy the challenge of trying to keep all the colors in the finished point.
Pappy should post a pic of a point and a clovis I did outa the same rock sometime Monday.
Now we just need to see a pic of horse creek points From two others  ;)

Thanks guys. What are ya talking about Jesse? Your Clovis's and big blades are what keeps me inspired ::). I think it's a healthy thing that we all inspire each other 8). Do you collect that rock yourself or do ya have a supplier? I'm going to try and make Classic #12, if so we may have to go on a little gathering spree ;D.

Yes i got it myself Cowboy.. but i had permission to get it with a friend who knows the people who own the land. i got about 120lbs of it.. there are other places to get it and i will probably be privileged to that info, but out of respect i will not go down there and collect rock from that spot without permission. but like i said there are other places to get it.  its about a 2 1/2 to 3hr drive south west of clarksville. The thing about this stuff is you find it in creeks, and its mixed in with other cherts and you gatta carrie around a billit and smack every rock you pick up and if your lucky 1 outa 20 has color. thats why this stuff is so rear.

If I have some extra time before the Classic I will help ya dig it up. Got any left over blasting material or gunpowder? We can probably rig something up. Now any DOD guys willing to give us a hand?  ;D
