Hello need help figuring out about ELB
vCo2v:
I've made a topic in "Bows" but I feel that it'd be more appropriate in here.
I wanted to purchase a traditional english bow at about 60#.
I'm kind of in a budget of around $150 That I'd be willing to spend on one.
http://www.woodbows.com/bamboohickoryelb.html would this be a good choice? I was told that it is questionable
I was told that I should just venture into making my own bow. However I have no woodworking experience and tools, and I have this mind set that the time and cost it would take to make my first bow would be more than just purchasing one.
Any additional help would be greatly appreciated since I'm absolutely in love with the English Long Bow

The guys on this forum are like mechanics. Asking us about wether to buy a bow or make one is like asking a mechanic if you should tune up your car yourself or pay someone else to do it. Most of us would say do it yourself.
However, if you are on a budget, I would try trading for a bow on this site (in the Trading Post). There are a lot of guys here with good quality bows that they would be willing to trade for anything of value to us (leather, feathers, flint or chert, etc.).
If you really like the bow you see on the internet site, then buy it. It has a 30 day money-back if not satisfied. ;D

Well $150 is about £80 which is not a lot of money to spend and you get what you pay for I suppose. I'd say increae your budget and buy a good laminate bow that will last you years without any real loss in performance. The bow you link to may be ok, I can't comment as I've no experience of there bows, so research it.
sailordad:
yup i agree
make your own, its old school that way
jackcrafty: i gotta disagree, most mechanics including myself would never tell ya to tune up your car yourself, not good for job security and most people
due more damage than good on modern cars. most people dont realize how complex they truly are, did you know that the modern vehicle has more on board computers than the APOLLO space capsules had,the modern vehicle has like 26 on board computers on average, thats not counting the high tech cars.
ya jsut make the bow yourself, you will be glad you did ;D ;)
peace,
tim

Sure, everyone here is gonna tell you to make it yourself! But, I understand your point. It's a fairly big commitment... tools, time, materials, learning curve, etc.
Good advice on asking in the trading post. However, $150 is not going to get you many offers.
