I haven't put it on a scale yet, but it feels like around 40-45lbs. The woods on the handle are Osage and Leopardwood. Enjoy.

john, the scales are cocobola with heartwood and sapwood. the holes in the sapwood were made by worms, i think they add a little character to a knife. wish i had more of that wood. the steel is 154CM. imo, one of the best knife steels out there.
-
Ok,Now all i want is too find out who I got as i cannot stand the waiting!!!!!!!!!!!
by Steve "Cromm" Ward. Feeling like a 8 1/2 year again!!!!!!!!1 :D :D

Well I got sent Home Early today....so I could come back at 7 tonight to start working Nights on an Emergency Job....so I swung by the Post Office on the way Home....and there was a Package from Mark Baggett......So I could hardly wait to get Home to Open It Up!! I got as far as the Garage and a Box Knife.....and peeled it open to find the Hawk that Pappy made back in November....It's a little Bodark Handled Flint Hawk with Deer Rawhide Lacing and Coyote Canines ..... Turkey Spurs ....and Deer Antler Tips on the Rawhide Lanyard...and a Turkey Beard on the Top....and Pappy Says that all of these were from Hunts of His....so this Hawk has ("manidooke") Strong Spiritual Powers...and will be carried with Me in My Bandolier Bag on all Hunts as a Talisman of good Luck.....Thank You pappy!
And Dana....You will have to wait a Bit for the High Resolution Picture....I have a Good One in Mind!!!

I got my gift in the mail a couple of days ago, but have been to busy to post it till now. It is from Kyle McCabe. The blade is from bandsaw blade stock his brother traded with Venisonburger, and is very sharp. The outside lamination on the handle is osage from a stave his brother traded with PatB. The inner lam is Cherry and was Kyle's. My pics dont do it any justice. Thanks Kyle. Joel

Wow! Nice stuff guys!!!
-
I got a large tube in the mail today. :)
My gift was from Skeaterbait. It is a nice Osage bow.
It turns out, this bow is special because it is the first Osage bow Lonnie made, and came from the first tree that he found, cut, and led all the way to completion.
This is a nice gesture, and a great bow.
Lonnie, it does shoot well. Maybe I'll give chase to a deer or two with it some this fall. :)

I received a parcel from Eddie Parker. Thank you so much for a nice choker and a nice mahagony obsidian knife. Where is the home area of the knifes`handle? (tree). And: how does the tree look?
Sorry, no smiling face on the pic. No photoraph at the moment available.
Regards Uwe

-
Nice gifts uwe, the handle looks to be cholla cactus, and I believe its native to Texas and the Southwest states.
-
I’m glad Patrick likes the atlatl, and don’t worry about the spear. Stuff breaks.
That is a really heavy atlatl. I based it on the Great Basin weapon, and this was my first time working with soapstone, which I got from a guy out in Angels Camp, California (where Mark Twain wrote about leaping frogs). The wood is Osage, and the bone I made the hook from came from Dave’s Soda and Pet City (they sell soda and pet supplies, weird eh?). I almost couldn’t bear to part with it. :)
Dane
-
Bunch of nice stuff there fellers. This thing is starting to take shape :).

Its a really nice neck knife and cool necklace. They both have good medicine.
I really like them and the sheath is the coolest one I have seen. Magnets are used to keep the blade in and there is a really awesome deer imprint on it. Pictures should be up tonite

My mailman has resorted to waiting till I aint home to bring the mail. ???
My gift went out a day or so early OOps. But it has been recieved , still no pics yet.
I might have to start hiding in the bushes to watch for the mailman. I think they are keeping it from me as punishment for giving them fruitcake for Christmas, I usually give them some homeade moonshine or wine :o

I got a long package from 1/2 primitive today. It contained a very nice short osage D bow. I think I did swallow my dip on this one. I will get some pics in the morning. I found out I was stalking the wrong person. I had been watching the mail, but it came by UPS. Tricky. Sean, you did a great job on this.

-
Nice knives Justin and looking foward to seeing the bow Eddie !
-
I gotta chime in again ;D Those knives are great. You guys have no lack of skill. I wasn't aware of the amount of guys on here that make such cool knives. I dont think Im gonna buy another one from a store. I'll look one of you up ;D
-
I agree with Jesse, with so much talent right here, why go to a store, all you have to do is talk to one of you guys. I would rather see you guys make some moneythan the stores.
-
I just went to the post office and guess what, I had a tube from Jesse-S. I could not believe the gift inside. As I opened the tube and unwrapped the gift with shaking hands was a beautiful bow. Jesse said the stave came from the the Upper Peninsula in Michigan, It was sent to Jesse by Dana.Pappy then helped lay it out in Tennessee and then it took the rest of the year to build.
The bow is hard maple with ebony overlays. The string is fastflight padded in the loops with 350 Dacron. The brace height is 6 inches 28 inch draw and 54 lbs.
Jesse I couldn't be more happy or proud to own such a beautiful bow. Sorry I can't post the pics, but I can't seem to get photo bucket to work. I will e-mail the pics to Dana and maybe he can put them on for me.
Thanks again Jesse
Robb
-
Robb it would be my pleasure to post the pics for ya, make sure and take high resolution pics eh.
Jesse did one heck of a job on that bow didn't he? And its the first bow bow for BOM this year
I'd say yer one lucky guy :) When ya send the pics make sure to include a full draw pic to.
-
Very cool gifts. So far everyone has been very generous. I am proud to be part of this ;D

Aiming for stump #1. #2 is just to the left of the feathers in the quiver. He nailed both.

Madcrowjrs' second hit in a row from 18 yards. Sorry the pic is so dark. The arrow was dead center in the stump.

Awesome pictures Eddie and Montana :) Wish I could go stumpin :(
-
dana
with the weather tha weve been having in our part of the country, ifn we shot a stump it would explode on impact seeing as
how everything is frozen solid.

It was a blistering 25 degrees while we were shooting. Almost needed some sun screen. ;D ;D ;D
-
Great photos Madcrow!!!!!!!!!!
-
Nice to see those pictures, Madcrow.
jr. looks like a heck of a shot! :)
Feel free to tinker with the brace hight and string to get it working better for you.
It'll draw fine out to 28".
Sean
-
Madcrow, I'm very happy that Montana is able to shoot his bow. I was worried it might be a little too stiff for him. From the looks of things, he's having no problems at all. ;) Great pictures.

-
You gotta one of a kind smile there Jesse ;D. That's a great gift and looks like everything fits - some fine work Pat..
-
Yeah this quiver is awesome. Im gonna use it all the time but its so nice I dont wanna mess it up. :)
Cowboy the smile on my face is kinda funny looking I agree :D My wife took the pic and kept tellin me turn a little this way I cant see the quiver ok now back a little ok now smile and quit squinting :D
-
So thats the reason! ;D
-
Ive never used this style quiver before and after playing around with it a little I realize it works better than great for shooting if its worn hanging sort of on the side with the knocks forward. Its really easy to get arrows out, it stays out of the way when shooting and the arrows dont fall out no matter what. Did I mention I love this quiver ;D
-
I'm jeleous,Not really, I just had to makemy own kinda like that I like that one more Congrads.PK
-
Saw the quiver in person yesterday, its really nice.
-
Jesse that is one beautiful quiver to be proud of, I'm jealous, never thought about making one like that for myself.
-
Here are some photos of the amazing arrows that Steve Parker ("Hillbilly") made for me. I was stunned when I came home from out of town and they were waiting for me. These are absolutely beautiful in every way. The shafts are Sasa palmata bamboo, which he acquired locally. The tips are really very cool, and I have not seen this kind before. Little John, a PA member, made them. The knocks are self knocks, and Hillbilly did a great job sinewing the feathers to the shaft. He signed them, which was a nice touch too.
I am really so proud to have these in my quiver, and are the nicest arrows I have. I actually think I will a bit nervsous using them, as I dont want to break or loose any of these.
My photos do not do these arrows justice.

Dang Dane dem are sweet arra's :) Did Hillbilly remember to send Davenport something ??? ::) :P ;D
-
Naw, Hillbilly didnt have an obligation. Davenport probably things that really tasty sinew and hide glue is for her, but she gets so much already, she is fine.
Dane
-
Great lookin arras!
-
Glad you like 'em, Dane. You don't have to worry much about breaking those cane arrows, they still lose just as easy as the wooden ones, though. ;D They're made to shoot. :)
Finally got a chance to take a pic of mine, this is a awesome rawhide-backed hickory bow from Hickoryswitch. I've flung quite a few arrows with it so far, and it shoots great-quiet, fast, and accurate. In short, I love it, great bow! He also sent a nice pressure-flaker made from a deer antler, so it has copper and antler tips both. I've already gotten some good use out of it, works great. Thanks again, Hickoryswitch!

Finally got some time with the camera and computer. Here is the quiver that Mini-Calendar Girl sent to me. I love it. Up till now I've carried my stump shooters in my hip pocket. This will come in really handy.
Mini-C also sent me a great little clip on folding knife sheath. Picture of that will have to wait. I left it at work on my desk. >:(
Thanks so much.

I don't know how recently we've done this, but again, thanks to Dana for all the hard work and the thought of this in the first place. I know working full time like we all do that it's hard some days to get home and think of the computer, but he takes care of the posts, the pictures, ect. Ya know, people come up with these great ideas but aren't willing to follow through with them, I'm guessing it's a big job. So THANKS!!! Dana.
VB
-
Thanks for the kind words VB, for the most part its not that much work. I guess my only complaint is having to nag some
of ya to get your pictures up and to e-mail me a high resolution picture :o Its the end of January now and this should be wrapped up,
so please if you have posted a picture yet do so and e-mail a nice picture suitable for publication in the magazine
One other thing if you are unable to meet your commitment then let me know and I will figure something out. Everyone who participated
in the Christmas Trade deserves to receive a gift in return. I take full responsibility for this and will make sure everyone receives a gift.
Thanks to all of you who participated this year, its all of you folks that make this something special :) I just do the footwork :D
-
I'll second that VB! This was a lot of fun
Tracy
-
Hey, how about a suggestion for next year, Dana. What if there is a time limit to let you know that your gift is finished. When you here from everyone that they are done, then you pick and match the names? That way nobody get's left out when someone doesn't follow through with their end.
They are doing this on Tradgang with the knife trade for the same reason.
-
Mullet that sounds good. it would give me a reason to start earlier :)
-
Quwestion. How can you make a bow for somebody if you have not drawn the name and know their specs? We could wind up with too many bows the wrong draw length or weight. ??? ??? ??? Sorry, I get confused easy.
-
Do like they would on a bow trade. Make set weight and dimensions for the bows. Standard 28" draw and a set poundage of 50#
Just my opinion.
TJ
-
I don't know how recently we've done this, but again, thanks to Dana for all the hard work and the thought of this in the first place.
Yes, thanks Dana.
Madcrow has a good point. I guess we could either eliminate bows as a gift, or we could allow people to make "back-up" gifts in case someone gets left out.
Or we could send handmade "archery gift cards" with cash inside. ;D
-
If you get a bow you can't shoot, trade it, give it to a friend that you want to corrupt, lift weights or stretch your arms. But it does , really blow when everybody post pictures of all the great stuff everybody got and one or two people stiff somebody. Then you have really nice people, that took this in the fun, giving, spirit this was meant to be, scrambling to make it right for everybody. It's not right, and I thought it would help make it a FUN tradition that Dana started and take out some of the stress for Dana and everybody involved.
Just a thought I had after seeing it on Tradgang.
-
Guess I will weigh in on this now that a few have voiced their opinion :)
Eddie I like the idea :) I'm thinking a 2 month time limit, if you can't find time in 2 months to make something than tough luck eh.
Also everybody knows this event will take place next year so if your really slow start now ::) I also want to see it stay a handmade gift,
not raw materials or a gift card. A handmade gift has meaning and takes work, materials and/or a gift card is too easy and somewhat impersonal.
We have to allow bows, this is after all a archery site, right. Keep the draw weight reasonable as from what I've seen not many of us shoot above 60#.
At this point only one person hasn't come through, after talking with him he's had a series of unfortunate events take place in his life.
I think we can all sympathize with him especially in today's world. My prayers go out to him. Hope yours do also :)
I have covered for him and the gift will go out today. I'm sure if I was in his shoes someone would cover for me also.
After all aren't we a family, and family looks out for their own eh :)
My biggest complaint with the whole Christmas trade is getting folks to post pictures and e-mail me one decent picture for publication
in the magazine. Here it is Jan 29th and were all still waiting on certain folks to post a picture ??? ??? ??? Also I've only received maybe 10
e-mails, if you want to see yourself in the magazine get off your butts and send me a picture. At this point its not worth my time to put an
article together :o I'm not going to waste my time if you folks can't find a few minutes to post and e-mail me a picture. I could also be spending
my time in the shop, hunting, fishing, or with my family. So please don't waste anymore of my time folks. I'm not going to PM anyone(waste my time)
begging that you e-mail me a picture. At this point I consider the trade done and a success but with a few hiccups.
Hope everyone enjoyed themselves, we'll see ya all at the 3rd Annual Christmas Trade next year eh :)
-
Dana, please let me know who didnt get a gift yet and I will try to send them something so they are not left out.
-
Dana, please let me know who didnt get a gift yet and I will try to send them something so they are not left out.
Its covered Ryan but thank you anyway :)
-
All sounds reasonable. Dana, if you need help and or tired of trying to get pics from participants, them let me know and I'll help out however I can. Really enjoyed the article in the last issue and see it as an annual article and representation of what PA is all about. Not trying to step on toes, just willing to help out.
Tracy
-
Dana, you did recieve my high-res photo? Are you sure that both your emails work? You gave two emails, and I would have to go back to see which one I used.
Feel free to use my ugly face 40 times for the article :)
The one thing that is so critical in any kind of project like this is good communications. No one should hesitate to say if they will ship late, etc. Then no one will feel left out.
It was a great time. I am glad you are doing it next year. If you need extra elves to help you out next time, just say so.
Dane
-
Dane I recieved yours and yes both my e-mails work.
Once more they are as follows

mstqsewer@charterinternet.com

I dont know if I will do it next year. I tried on my gift and it was one of my better knapped points but after seeing all the other great stuff I sorta feel like a stiffed my person.
-
I dont know if I will do it next year. I tried on my gift and it was one of my better knapped points but after seeing all the other great stuff I sorta feel like a stiffed my person.
Thats crazy. :( I dont think its about making an even trade. Its too hard to compare all the different stuff anyway. I wouldnt worry about who's was better. I hope you join again next year :) I didnt look back at your gift but Im sure it was great. You didnt stiff anyone unless you chose to send nothing. I wouldnt sweat it.
-
David....all anyone on here expects is a Gift from the Heart....not a Gift from a Sporting Goods Store....You made it with your own two hands....and thats what made it special...as long as someone tries to make a nice gift.....and not just toss something together....there is no better gift in my Mind....don't judge your handmade gift by any others....thats like judging one child against another....just ain't right.....You had better be back next years....maybe I will draw You!!
-
It ain't about who made the finest gift. It is about the spirit of giving and making something with what you have. Do your best and enjoy the spirit. You made a fine gift. One that I am sure anyone of us would be happy to get.
TJ
-
Ya you all are right. I shouldnt of thought about it like that
-
David, after the Classic your points will look as nice as Pauls and others. Just need to have someone show ou the tricks!
-
since i know my recipient has internet problems, i hope it is OK to post pictures of what i sent. it's an asbell-type quiver, made from one piece of leather, with stiffeners matching the 9 arrows it holds.

Cool!!!!
-
That would be great for hunting. Well done :)
-
I agree that this Christmas trade is a wonderful thing. Dana you have done a great job, and it is perfect just the way it is. It has been said before giving is from the heart and not not all of us are as gifted as others, and that is to be expected but we all try as best we can. The gifts all looked great, and everyone should be proud of the work that they put into their gifts.
Robb
-
Man, that is one lucky person. That is really cool looking, Marius. Hope you don't mind, I might have to borrow that Idea.
-
Nice quiver Marius !
Good job on the Christmas trade Dana ! I wouldn't change a thing !
-
Dana: You've done a great job. I'll get you a high res shot this weekend. I've given up on the whole "gotta loose 30 holiday pounds" before my magazine shoot concept. ;D
Thanks again
Mike
-
Me and my wife have both received wonderful gifts in this Christmas trade. Both of us would like to say that this has been a great experience and a lot of fun. My wife received a very unique bow and 6 arrows from waterlogged. I received a wonderfully hand-crafted quiver from ryano. It's all bamboo and leather. And from islandpiper, I received a beautiful pair of hand made wooden spoons and some cajun seasoning that would absolutely wake up ANY food!! Once again, Thanks guys!!!
Dana, me and my wife would also like to thank you for taking the time and effort to put this all together for everyone that has been involved. Can't wait 'til next year!!!! ;D ;D

Everything looks great. I really like the quiver.
-
So, when do I get to see a picture of the happy young man and his new gifts? (Hint! Hint!!!) ;D
-
Thanks for posting the pictures David. One question though, How did a ugly ol redneck like you
manage to get such a pretty wife ;D Must be yer money eh ;)
Tiller I believe Koan is iced in so it may be awhile.
-
What, David was in the pic? Oh, I had to scroll back up and look. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
hey KnightD, glad you like the spoons and spice. You can spend some time in the kitchen and that young lady can step out back and practice with her new bow!!
I agree. Thanks Dana!! for taking the time to manage this whole thing.
piper
-
Glad you like the quiver David. Hope it fits your bow. The arrow head inlay is made of cherry bark by the way.
-
Here's Auggie's Christmas gift not sure who its from but its a dandy. :)

-
Nice work everyone!! I know my person got their gift because she posted a thank you on here and by PM. I just hope she has sent you a photo DanaM???
-
Got my gift two days ago. Thank you Keenan! This gift is awesome! Everybody brags on my knapping so much - man their sure ain't nothing wrong with your knapping ;D. It's a sage stump with deer antler support display piece. Thanks so much, this'll make a nice addition to my den ;).
-
Paul, that's awesome!
-
Paul, that's incredible! Keenan is quite the artist!!! 8)
-
Yep, Keenan is quite talented. I got so excited that I forgot to lay out the specs on this beautiful midnight lace, 4 1/2" blade, perfectly symetrical, can't be over 3/16" thick anywhere, mounted to deer antler, sinew wrapped knife ;D.
-
Beauty ain't it paul :) You need my e-mail address ::)
I would appreciate it if those of you haven't posted a picture would do so, its not just in the rules
but its simple courtesy to the folks that took the time and effort to make you a gift. More than enough time has passed
that your too busy just don't cut it :(
-
Paul, Glad you like it. Thanks for the compliments but I still have allot to learn on the napping. I'm afraid if I try some of that super hard stuff, you all have, that I would be in for some serious humbling. I'm glad that it finally got there and apologize for the delays.
-
Keenan, I'd say if anyone had a good excuse it would be you. ;) I hope you and Lulyn are getting back on an even keel.
-
Thanks Pat, Things are starting to smooth out on the home front some. We were able to get out for a little romantic get away to a rustic cabin over on the Metolous river a few days ago. Marinated steaks on the barbecue and river right off the porch. Watched a big herd of elk at dusk and a stroll along the river the next morning. ;) I was even able to control myself and not take a saw to cut staves ::)
-
Wow! Paul, thats a great gift.
Keenan, you are really coming along with your knaping. Man thats purdy.
Kennan, I think you will get your chance to hit some hard stuff if you come out to the Classic. You will meet a lot of the guys on the site and get more knaping and bow building in than you can imagine. My adrenaline is already flowing in anticipation!

-
Cool quiver and cool shirt ! I have a shirt just like it :D
-
Beautiful quiver, their sure is alot of bead work done on it. It takes hours to do that sort of work, you should be very proud of your gift.
-
Be proud and dare somebody to touch it. That is probably around 10,000 beads. Beautiful work.
-
Wow that is beautiful. Who made it?
-
Nice job done. Is it woven or beaded beadwork?
By the way, I hope we`ll have another Christmas Trade this year. Because of my trouble with post and customs I made another item which had been sended to USA in early January. It shall wait for its new owner.
Regards Uwe

How about those guys get those disposable 35mm point and shoot cameras, take some shots, and mail them to someone with a scanner to create digital images.
Or maybe the creators took some digital shots, at least we could see the goods.
Dane
-
or if someone has an old digi camera that still works, why not trade them for something.then they have a digi camera and the other person would get something cool
and then they can post pics and we can all see whats what

Here's a better close up of that beadwork. Ian has a good camera, just can't find the cable to hook up to his puter. So, he stopped by the shop for pics.
That beading was great, better than any photo can show.

I promised this some time back, so I'm sorry I'm just now getting around to posting this. In addition to the super quiver that Mini-Calendar girl sent me, she also included this great knife/mini-mag case. Thanks again Mini. I wear it every day. It does a great job keeping my Case XX Trapper close at hand and safe from falling out of my pocket, and who knew a flashlight would come in so handy. It beats carrying my reading glasses around and helps me see just as well. ;D

Really sorry about posting this late, I got back to the university and was slammed with work, then my computer decided to break. Posting from a friends, so sorry about poor picture quality. This is the quiver and arrows that dustybear sent me. They are really great. The leatherwork is some of the best I've seen, the idea is unique, and the arrows fly great out of a bow I just finished! Perfect timing.
Here are some pictures.

Great late photos!!! ;D

Some great stuff guys thanks for posting the pics, now make sure ya e-mail me a picture ;) ;D
Me thinks everyone has posted pictures except a couple of ladies from Tenn. and a ro ;)gue from PA

Mike,
Calendar Girl sent me a knife case just like that with my quiver! It is in the picture at the bottom, but I absolutely forgot to mention it. I have my friction folder in it right now! I was wondering what I could put in the slot and now I know!
Thanks Again Calendar Girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hey waterlogged, i'm glad you're OK. i started to worry about you. and i'm sure glad you like the set. after all, the quiver was a prototype and two-fletched arrows are not to everybody's taste. ;D
and yes mullet, of course you can borrow it, it's not my design anyway. i think mr. asbell started these types of quivers (but what do i know, i'm just a redneck from germany ;D)
